You want to adopt a dog - Please be guided by our Policy
(Adoption of cats differ in some aspects)
- An Adoption Request Form must be completed.
- You can view and select any dog of your choice.
- Please pay attention to Section 7 - "Hold For" - on the yellow card on kennel. If there is someone's name appearing here, these persons have preference over adoption of the animal. Adoption Requests run on a first come, first serve basis.
- If there is an "Adopted" or "Not Available" sign on the kennel card, then that dog is not available. If that section is empty, then that dog is openly available.
- Let the Administration staff know of your choice and they will write your name in that Section. If you presently have male dogs in the yard, we cannot place another male dog in your home.
- A House check will be carried out within 7-10 days after your request has been made. In some instances it may be longer, depending on the area in which you live and availability of our house check volunteers. (Please note that our house check volunteers assist in these checks during their free time when they are not working).
- Once the house check has been approved, you will be notified to come in and adopt the dog. You can be disqualified for certain reasons. You can ask the Administrative staff about this.
- A donation is required for the adoption of the dog.
A House Check is to ensure that the home is properly fenced so that the animal cannot get out and accidentally run over. We also need to ensure that if the animal being kept in a yard, then a suitable shaded area is available for it. We also try to match the animal and the prospective new owner, taking into account the temperament of the animal and the and constitution of the household. It makes no sense for us to re-home a nervous dog with a family that has small children. Similary, we cannot home an excitable puppy with an elderly person. Once house check is approved you will be notified to come in to collect your dog.
The donation asked covers for the cost of spay/neuter of the animal (please ask out staff about this). In addition, the average animal costs the TTSPCA over $1,500 for a 3 month stay at our shelter. The cost incurred covers housing and maintaining of the animals which includes veterinary treatment, food and general care etc.
The spaying or neutering of animals is an condition of adopting. This is NOT negotiable.
We are a very small facility serving a large country. Our space is quite limited and the animals are numerous. Hundreds of homeless and unwanted dogs and cats in T&TSPCA need your help. If you have a big heart, time to spare and willingness to open your home to loving and needy animals, then you are the person we are looking for. For more information on how you can help save these precious lives, please contact the TTSPCA.
You will find some animals for adoption in the Adoption Gallery below.
